HISTORY OF ULUWATU TEMPLE

Uluwatu, which lies at the southern tip of the island of Bali and leads to the Indian Ocean, is a charming tourist attractions.

What's interesting to look at here is the temple that stands firmly on top of the rock which juts out into the sea at a height of about 50 meters. In the evening while enjoying a beautiful sunset, you can see the famous Balinese dance performances to the foreign countries, Kecak dance.
Not only that, for those of you who enjoy learning the history, pretending that this one is loaded will value its history. Its history will be outlined as follows:

In some of the sources mentioned, circa 1489 Ce come to Bali a purohita, writer and clergyman named Danghyang Dwijendra. Danghyang Dwijendra was a Hindu preacher, the birth of Kediri, East Java.

Danghyang Dwijendra in the walaka named Danghyang Nirartha. He married a Princess of Daha, East Java. At this time he learned and diksa by his father-in-law. Danghyang Nirartha was awarded the bhiseka kawikon by the name of Danghyang Dwijendra.

Once diksa, Danghyang Dwijendra assignee executing dharmayatra as one of the conditions kawikon. Dharmayatra this should be implemented on the island of Bali, with the addition of a very heavy task of his father-in-law that organize the lives of indigenous peoples and religions, especially on the island of Bali. When it is deemed necessary that dharmayatra can be forwarded to the Sasak and Sumbawa Island.

Danghyang Dwijendra came to the island of Bali, the first foot on the outskirts of the southwestern coast area Districts to momentarily rest before proceed dharmayatra. In place of this abandoned Dwijendra Danghyang pemutik (there is also called the pengutik) and stalk (starch) wood ancak. Wooden ancak starch that turns out to be alive and flourishing tree ancak. Until now the leaves used as wood ancak completeness of banten in Bali. As a Memorial and tribute to him, facing a temple named Purancak.

After holding dharmayatra to the island of Sumbawa and Sasak, Danghyang Dwijendra heading southwest the South end of the island of Bali, in the arid, full of rocks called the bebukitan.

After a while living there, he felt the call of the Lord the creator to come back soon amoring acintia parama moksha. In place of this Ida Pedanda Sakti Wawu Rauh recalled (icang eling) and samaya (vows) himself to return to his home. That is why the scene is called Cangeling and has slowly become Cengiling until now.

Thus, Ida Pedanda Sakti Wawu Rauh ngulati (seeking) a place that is considered safe and appropriate to make parama moksha. Therefore considered not eligible, he moved again to another location. In this place, then built a temple called Pura Toadstool. The name is derived from the word ngulati. The shrine is located in Pecatu village.

While walking to get to the new location that was deemed eligible for the parama moksha, Ida Pedanda Sakti Wawu Rauh was very sad and crying in his mind. Why? Therefore he feels has not been willing to leave this world because the scale is swadharmanya have not felt completely, i.e. to organize the life of Hindu religion in the Sasak and Sumbawa. In place of the he mengangis, and then founded a temple called Pura Ngis (the origin of the word cry). Ngis Temple is located in Banjar Tengah Village customs and Pecatu.

Ida Pedanda Sakti Wawu Rauh yet also find places that are considered appropriate to parama moksha. He then arrived in a place full of boulders. He felt only alone. In this place, and then founded a temple called Pura Batu Diyi. Also in this place Danghyang Dwijendra feel less safe to parama moksha. With the trip quite tiring holding hunger and thirst, he finally arrived in the area of bebukitan which always gets the scorching rays of the Sun. Overarching goals for himself, he took a piece of leaf beetles and trying to get the source of drinking water. After touring found no source of drinking water, finally driving in Dwijendra Danghyang wand. Then the water went out amertha. In this place and founded a temple called Pura Umbrella with a source of water used means of tirtha's until now.

Ida Pedanda Sakti Wawu Rauh then went off again to another location, to entertain yourself before sending a second-second return to the origin. In this place and founded a temple called Pura Selonding is also located in Banjar village of Pecatu Custom Kangin. After you satisfied self-comforting, Danghyang Dwijendra feel tired. Then he was looking for a place to rest. I was so lelahnya to the extent he sirep (sleepiness). In this place and founded a temple named Parerepan Temple (parerepan pasirepan, meaning place of lodging) located in Pecatu village.

Approaching seconds-seconds end to parama moksha, Danghyang Dwijendra mulat sarira and purify themselves first. In this place until now stood a temple called Pangleburan Temple located in Banjar Kauh Village customs and Pecatu. After purify themselves, he continued his journey towards the location of the southwestern tip of the island of Bali. The place is composed of rocks of the cliffs. When observed from below the surface of the sea, looked at each other, overlapping into shaped head perched on top of the cliff rocks, with elevations between 50-100 meters from the sea level. Thus called Uluwatu. Ulu watu head means and means rock.

Before Danghyang Dwijendra parama moksha, he called the boat skipper who had brought it from Sumbawa to the island of Bali. Skipper the boat was named Ki Pacek Nambangan boat. The Priest for help to skipper the boat brought clothes and his baton to his wife in the fourth Pasraman Griya Sakti Mas in Banjar Pule, Desa Mas, Ubud, Gianyar. That outfit in the form of colored silk robes of light green and wooden sticks. After Ki Pacek Nambangan Boat departed Pasraman Danghyang Dwijendra in Mas, Ida Pedanda Sakti Wawu Rauh immediately toward a large rock on the East banks of the stones of the former heritage Temple Sri Wira Dalem Kesari. On rock that is, Ida Pedanda Sakti Wawu Rauh beryoga mengranasika, so urangka off Kris executables, lost without the former, amoring acintia parama moksha.

Besides the beach in Uluwatu considerable waves with very challenging for the lovers of the sport of surfing. Each year the international level event is always held on the beach at Uluwatu.
